SHAMBHALA SUN MAy 2011 8 Sharon Salzberg (“Real Happiness,” page 50), one of America’s most widely known Buddhist teachers, has been an insight meditation instructor since the seventies, and is a founder of the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, Massachusetts. Salzberg’s teaching in this issue is from her new book, Real Happiness: The Power of Meditation—A 28-Day Program. SiSter Dang nghiem (“In the Pure Land of the Present Moment,” page 62) was ordained in May 2000 by Zen master thich nhat hanh. Thich Nhat Hanh is the author of more than forty books. eDwarD eSpe brown (“Have You Tried Meditation?” page 27) has been a Zen practitioner for nearly forty-five years. He is the subject of How to Cook Your Life, a documentary film by Doris Dörrie. Stephan talty (“The Dalai Lama: The Making of a Spiritual Hero,” page 42) is a journalist who has contributed to the New York Times Magazine, GQ, Men’s Journal, and many other publications. He is the au- thor of the bestselling Empire of Blue Water. His most recent book is Escape From the Land of Snows. brian haycock (“Escape,” page 69) is a writer and former taxi driver who lives in Austin, Texas.
