Lions Roar : March 2019
2011 2012 2015 2019 Company founder Sam Bercholz transfers ownership to his two children, Sara Bercholz and Ivan Bercholz. Sara launches a new lifestyle imprint for the company, Roost Books, which has gone on to win multiple James Beard cookbook awards. Ivan will later launch a Buddhist children’s book imprint, Bala Kids. Shambhala Publications returns once again to Boulder to be part of the vibrant community of Buddhists, yogis, and health- conscious people who live there. The staff expands to over 40 full- time employees. A new division of the company, Prajna Studios, is formed to produce online courses of the company’s most popular authors. Shambhala Publications acquires Snow Lion, adding several hundred Tibetan Buddhist titles to their list and solidifying their position as the premier publisher of Buddhist books in English. Snow Lion remains an active imprint to this day, bringing into print important works by leading translators and organizations like the Tsadra Foundation. Shambhala Publications turns 50 years old and launches Bala Kids. In response to the increasing fascination with the dhar- ma in the Western world, Shambhala Publications has continued to expand its reper- toire of books to a wide range of topics on Buddhist think- ing, study, and practice—as well as their application to art, science, wellness, and so- cial transformation. The company’s remarkable success reflects and inspires the evolution of human consciousness. —Kazuaki Tanahashi See them all at Shambhala.com/pocket-editions It is a great delight to commemorate the Shambhala Publications community, past and present, on its 50th anniversary. From the very beginning, a high bar of excellence was set. With great appreciation for the not- so-small miracle of fifty years of publishing devoted not only to great spiritual classics, but also to the diverse actualization of wisdom in the world, we wish Shambhala continued success in the future. — Jetsun Khandro Rinpoche
